I’m getting a lot of variability in comments on what kinds of ads are showing up and how often.
If you are a subscriber and you’re seeing, or not seeing, ads when you’re logged in, can you add a note about which the case is, and what Operating System and browser you’re currently using? If nothing else, maybe the tech people can use that info to target their work more effectively.
Thanks.
I was just checking back on my reports to the Help Desk, and realized that the first one that mentioned tiny ads popping up on Comment pages was on May 1 of this year. Since today is September 1, I thought I’d celebrate the fourth month of these little nuisances with a diary asking, at least, what progress has been made on getting rid of the two variations that sneaked through the subscription barrier and seem to have found a permanent home in the diaries and comments I read.
Even when they’re not showing up, they create a vast sea of white space between diary paragraphs, which I’ve gotten used to, if not happy about.
If nothing else, I’d like to get some likely estimate of how long it will take to circumvent Google’s takeover of what should be ad-free pages. Or, if the tech staff has given up on the problem, I’d like to know that. I can actually envision a scenario where Google policy on this type of ads prohibits selective disabling. If that’s the case, I’d like to know so that I can consider alternatives.
